Jeffrey Hodrick, M.D. receives HCA Healthcare Frist Humanitarian Award for TriStar Centennial Medical Center

TriStar Centennial Medical Center is pleased to announce that orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Hodrick has been chosen as the 2019 HCA Healthcare Frist Humanitarian Award physician recipient for TriStar Centennial Medical Center. The Frist Humanitarian Award was created in 1971 by HCA Healthcare co-founder, Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr. who is renowned for a lifetime of profound humanitarian efforts. Each year, HCA Healthcare hospitals across the United States and the U.K. recognize a physician, employee and volunteer who consistently demonstrates compassionate care both inside and outside the hospital setting.

Dr. Hodrick was recognized for his leadership in spearheading an opioid medication take-back initiative with the goal of educating the community on the dangers of opioid addiction and to increase awareness on proper prescription disposal. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), drug overdoses have claimed the lives of more Americans than cars, guns and breast cancer. So, in the fall of 2018, Dr. Hodrick - in partnership with law enforcement - launched "Crush the Crisis" opioid-take back events. Medication drop-off sites were hosted at HCA Healthcare TriStar Division hospitals across two states and 14 communities, resulting in the successful collection and disposal of more than 300 lbs. of prescription opioids.

"TriStar Centennial is proud to support Dr. Hodrick's 'Crush the Crisis' initiative," said Scott Cihak, chief executive officer at TriStar Centennial Medical Center. "Dr. Hodrick's passion for this national problem and his commitment to action are reflective of Dr. Frist's ideals and values that HCA Healthcare was founded upon."
